It is very important to use good speaker cables as your amplifier cannot deliver its power to the loudspeakers effectively through tiny wires. The more powerful the amp and the longer the distance between amp and speakers the better the cables need to be.

The best method of terminating speaker cables is with spade connectors, but banana plugs are more convenient particularly if they need to be removed often. And there is nothing wrong with the bare wire being inserted through the terminal posts and screwed down by the knob.
